Please note that from January 1 to 31, 2012, you will not be able to access the Tax duplicates tab of your on-line student file. This service will be interrupted to enable us to produce the documents required for the 2011 income tax return. The Tax duplicates tab allows you to consult and print, if applicable, duplicates of documents that are required for your income tax return (e.g. Relevé 1 or T4A tax slip or letter certifying a payment to Aide financière aux études).

Indexing of some allowable expenses
The amounts that Aide financière aux études recognizes for living expenses have been increased by 2,7% for the 2011-2012 award year. Note that if your application for financial assistance has already been processed, a new assessment will be performed between now and December 2011.

Online Applications for 2012 Explore Program Bursaries
The Explore Program offers you an opportunity to receive a bursary and improve your English or French language skills in immersion classes while you discover a new region of Canada. Interested? Fill out an online bursary application right away by clicking on On-Line Access to Your File!
Simply log on to the Identification section and click on the Explore Forms tab. Then, in the Fill Out a Form section, click on the Bursary Application link. As soon as you have submitted your application, you can check the status of your file on the Aide financière aux études (AFE) web site.

It is not too late to file your confirmation of financial resources for 2011
If you have not filed your confirmation of financial resources for 2011 as of September 21, 2011, you must do so even if your income has not changed. Otherwise, your financial assistance instalments will be suspended as of October 2011. However, once you have filed your confirmation, your instalments should be reinstated within a few days.
You can update or confirm your financial resources on-line. Simply click on On-Line Access to Your File! under the menu Your On-Line Services. Fill out the Identification section, then click on Full-time forms and Confirmation of Financial Resources. You can access the form any time until you send it.
Remember that you must inform us of any change in your circumstances over the course of the year that might affect the amount of financial assistance awarded to you. By ensuring that your file is up-to-date with accurate information, you will avoid any of a number of inconveniences, such as:

Exceptional review process ― Child support payments
Pursuant to the judgment of the Québec Court of Appeal, the exceptional review process is now in place. New assessments will be performed for persons who file an application for review with a view to exempting the full amount of child support payments received from the income considered by Aide financière aux études.

Allowance for Special Needs Program – Youth
The Allowance for Special Needs Program for Youth is intended for students who attend preschool, elementary school or secondary school in the private sector and who have special needs that limit their learning activities at home.
If your child attends a public sector school, you must contact the administration of that school directly for the necessary assistance.
Persons who wish to file an application under this program for 2011-2012 will be able to do so shortly. Consult the News section of our Web site regularly.

Strike by Canada Post
On Monday, June 6, 2011, Aide financière aux études gradually resumed sending items by mail via Canada Post. However, the mail strike may continue to disrupt service and cause delays.
We wish to remind you that, if you must send us documents, you must use the services of Canada Post or a private courier. Documents sent by fax or e-mail are not accepted.

Canada Post strike
Due to the strike by Canada Post, which began at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011, we wish to inform you that Aide financière aux études will be suspending indefinitely the mailing of documents that are usually transmitted in that manner. We invite you to check On-Line Access to Your File! and in particular the Notices section on a regular basis.
Please note that you can continue to send us your documents via Canada Post or private courrier service. However, any documents you send via Canada Post may be delayed, which could result in a delay in the processing of your file. Note that documents sent by fax will not be accepted. Students who live in the Québec City area can use the AFE deposit box located on the main floor of the Marie-Guyart building at 1035 rue De La Chevrotière, Québec City.
In addition, it is preferable that you file your application via the Internet. The on-line form is adapted to your situation and the information you provide is validated as you go.
We will advise you when the situation has returned to normal.

Erratum - 2011-2012 Application for financial assistance print form
Please note that page 27 of the print copy of the 2011-2012 Application for financial assistance contains an erroneous date. That error only concerns declarations by the father, mother or spouse. The accurate date can be found in the same document on the reverse of the 2011-2012 Appendix A - Student's Dependent Children. Note that the PDF version of the application, which is available under the Print forms section of our Web site, is accurate.
In addition, it is preferable that you file your application via the Internet. The on-line form is adapted to your situation and the information you provide is validated as you go.

Child support – Judgment relating to the motion to institute a class action against the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport
The Superior Court of Québec dismissed the motion by the Fédération des associations de familles monoparentales et recomposées du Québec (FAFMRQ) to institute a class action against the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport. Therefore, pursuant to the judgment by the Québec Court of Appeals and in accordance with the Act respecting financial assistance for education expenses, a new assessment may be performed for persons who apply for a review of their file in order to have child support fully excluded from the income considered by Aide financière aux études.

Access to your tax duplicates
You can now access the Tax duplicates tab of On-Line Access to Your File! You should note that an amended T4A tax slip has been issued in replacement of the previous slip sent to you for 2010. You must therefore refer to the new slip when filing your income tax return and keep it in a safe place. If you received a 2010 T4A tax slip by mail, you will receive the amended tax slip in the same manner

If you must repay your student debt and are experiencing financial difficulty, you may be considering filing an application for the Deferred Payment Plan. You can now fill out an on-line application under On-Line Access to Your File!
If you cannot access that form, it is either because you do not meet the eligibility requirements or your file status does not allow you to fill out an application under the Plan at this time.
