Work/Study Program
Are you studying at the college, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral level?
Do you face financial difficulties that could be alleviated by working?
You could be eligible for the Work/Study Program, an initiative that helps find employment within the educational institution for students who face financial difficulties due to exceptional circumstances. Since the Program is intended to encourage participants to pursue post-secondary studies, the number of work hours is limited to avoid adversely affecting school performance.
Terms and conditions according to the institution
The Work/Study Program is co-funded in equal parts by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport and the participating educational institution. Program funding is renewed on a yearly basis.
The Program is administered by the educational institution, which selects the jobs to be offered and sets pay scales. Each institution also determines the period during which it accepts applications.
Eligibility requirements
In addition to the specific requirements set by each educational institution, you must meet the following eligibility requirements to qualify for the Work/Study Program:
- You must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a refugee or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- You must be studying full-time during the fall and winter study periods. If you are studying at the college level during the summer study period, you must be enrolled in at least two courses or for 90 course hours. If you are studying at the undergraduate, graduate or doctorate level during the summer study period, you must be enrolled in courses worth at least six credits or have been enrolled full-time in the previous winter study period and be considered admitted full-time for the following fall study period.
- You must have applied for financial assistance under the Loans and Bursaries Program for the current award year. This requirement does not apply if you are no longer eligible under the Loans and Bursaries Program because you have reached the debt limit for your particular program or because you have received assistance for the maximum number of months of eligibility allowed.
