Other Programs

In addition to the Loans and Bursaries Program and the Loans Program for Part-Time Studies, Aide financière aux études offers support programs to help students pursue their studies.

Work-Study Program

Are you pursuing college or university studies and face financial difficulties that could be alleviated by working?

You could be eligible for the Work/Study Program, which enables students who face financial difficulties due to exceptional circumstances to obtain employment at their educational institution.

Allowance for Special Needs Program – Youth

Your child could be eligible under the Allowance for Special Needs Program for Youth if he or she

  • has special needs that hinder his or her learning activities at home
  • attends preschool, elementary school or secondary school in the private sector
  • requires certain devices or adaptive equipment at home to pursue his or her studies

Please note that if your child attends a public sector educational institution, you should henceforth address special needs issues to the school administration rather than to Aide financière aux études. Since July 1, 2011, any required technological assistance for your child will be part of the Individualized Education Plan. Preparing a school care plan in conjunction with students, parents and fieldworkers includes assessing a child's capabilities and needs as well as setting goals and ensuring the means required to meet these needs.

Allowance for Special Needs Program – Adults

You could be eligible under the Allowance for Special Needs Program for Adults if you

  • have a major functional disability or another recognized disability
  • are attending, on a full-time or part-time basis, a recognized educational institution at the secondary school (vocational training or adult education), college or university level
  • require material resources, specialized services, paratransit services or a housing allowance to pursue your studies

Loan Remission Program

Under the Loan Remission Program, 15 per cent of the debt you incurred while pursuing your program of study could be forgiven if you

  • received a bursary for each award year under the Loans and Bursaries Program
  • completed your college technical studies or university studies within the prescribed period

Deferred Payment Plan

Have you terminated your studies but are unable to repay your student loan debt because you are in a precarious financial situation?

You could be eligible under the Deferred Payment Plan, which allows students to postpone for six to 24 months the loan payments that are usually required at the end of one's studies.

Explore

Would you like to take a French or English immersion course?

Thanks to the bursaries offered under the Explore program, you could participate in a five-week immersion course in French or English at an accredited educational institution.
