The assistance that could be awarded to you is established for the award year (September 1 to August 30) according to your financial needs. To evaluate these needs, the government takes into account the allowable expenses and any contribution it requires be made toward the cost of your education, i.e. your contribution and, if applicable, your parents’ contribution, your sponsor’s contribution or your spouse’s contribution.
Note that your financial needs do not necessarily correspond to the amount of financial assistance that could be awarded, since the latter also depends on the loan that could be awarded for the award year, according to the program of study, the level of education and the number of months of study.
If your application for financial assistance is approved, you will be sent a Financial Assistance Statement, which indicates the total amount of financial assistance granted for the award year, including the loan portion, the bursary portion and a breakdown of the payment installments.
For additional information on how the financial assistance is assessed, consult the Student Financial Assistance booklet.
