Contribution

To determine the amount of financial assistance to be awarded, Aide financière aux études takes into account not only the expenses usually incurred by students, but also all the financial contributions that you receive. Therefore, you must first determine whether you belong to the category of students with a parental contribution or of students without a parental contribution.

Your contribution is established according to:

Note that only a portion of the income you earned between January 1 and December 31 of the calendar year ending during the current award year is considered. The rest is deemed necessary for you to meet your needs during the months in which no expenses are recognized.

To establish your contribution, we perform an assessment similar to your income tax assessment:

  • From your employment income, we subtract the exemptions to which you are entitled.
  • We then calculate 40% of the result (or 50% if you received student financial assistance the previous year).
  • We then add 100% of your other income and 100% of your bursary income considered in excess of $5 000.
  • We then subtract the contribution reductions that correspond to your situation.

The calculation is summarized as follows:

(employment income – exemptions)
x 40% (x 50% if you received student assistance the previous year)

+ 100% of other income (except bursaries)
+ 100% of bursary income considered in excess of $5 000
– reductions
= your contribution
