The Loans and Bursaries Program is based on the principle that you and, if applicable, your parents, sponsor or spouse must contribute toward the cost of your education according to your respective means.
When assessing the amount of financial assistance to which you are entitled, the government considers the contributions expected in your particular case, and the expenses normally incurred in pursuing your studies.
First, it determines the amount of the loan that could be awarded to you for an award year. That amount is used in the assessment of the amount that will be granted to you, based on the level of education, type of program and duration of study.
Then it determines the following:
What amount of loan could be awarded to you?
How is your contribution determined?
Which student category do you belong to?
If your parent or sponsor must make a contribution, how will it be determined?
If your spouse must make a contribution, how will it be determined?
How will your financial needs and the amount of your financial assistance be assessed?
