Frequently asked questions
I have finished my studies. When do I need to begin to repay my loan?
The government stops paying the interest on your loan the month after the end of your studies, and you become responsible for this. You can start the repayment process immediately or take advantage of the 6-month option. If you choose the 6-month option, you will not be obligated to repay the loan principal during that time and the accrued interest will be deferred for six months. After the 6-month period expires, you are responsible for making repayment arrangements with your financial institution.
Do I need to repay my student loan debt if I am experiencing financial difficulties?
Start by contacting your financial institution’s student loan centre, whose agents are in the best position to advise you on your options in the light of your financial difficulties.
A support measure does exist for people experiencing a precarious financial situation. Go to the Deferred Payment Plan page to learn about eligibility criteria and how to apply.
