Courses and activities

Classes and compulsory activities

Explore provides a minimum of 150 hours of training over 5 weeks. This includes courses, linguistic workshops and sociocultural activities (compulsory) intended to foster the use of the second language at all times and in a variety of situations, as well as several optional activities or outings.

Classes or compulsory activities take place every day.

The program includes at least three class hours every day from Monday to Friday.

Compulsory activities can take place on weekdays or weekends and during the daytime or evening. There will be at least 10 workshop hours and 5 hours of sociocultural activities each week.

Given that secondary school participants are usually 16 or 17 years old and that college and university participants are between 18 and 25 years of age, programming is mainly designed for these age groups.

Suggested compulsory activities vary from one school to another. Here are a few examples:

  • improvisation
  • outdoor activities
  • community events
  • shows
  • theme evenings
  • phonetics
  • music
  • drama
  • photography
  • board games
  • cultural discovery rallies

You will have some available free time, especially on weekends.

You are not allowed to work or take distance learning courses during your immersion program, because participants are expected to devote themselves fully to Explore Program activities.

Optional activities

Optional activities such as excursions, outings or homework or integration workshops will be offered.

Some may entail costs for participants and take place mainly on weekends.
