Debt Limit

The debt limit is the maximum amount of student loan debt that you can carry. It is based on level of education, type of degree and program.

Your debt load corresponds to your loan balance plus any outstanding bursary overpayments you received.

No financial assistance will be awarded to you if you have reached the debt limit for your level of education, type of degree and program at the beginning of the award year.

If you qualify for financial assistance at the beginning of an award year, you remain eligible for the entire year even if you reach the maximum debt limit during the year. However, if you change programs during the year or a change in your status in a previous year led to a loan increase for that year, your eligibility for financial assistance will be reassessed in accordance with your level of indebtedness at the beginning of the year.

You can check your debt balance in the Student debt load section of On-Line Services.
