If you are the parent, the sponsor or the spouse of a student who falls into the category of students with a parental or sponsor’s contribution or the category of students with a spousal contribution, you must contribute toward the cost of that student’s education, according to your means. That is the basic principle underlying the Loans and Bursaries Program.

To assess the amount of financial assistance to which a student is entitled, the government takes into account all the contributions that it requires be made toward the cost of the student’s education and the usual related expenses.

Parental or sponsor’s contribution

If you are the parent or sponsor of a student who is applying for student financial assistance and you must contribute toward the cost of the student’s education, consult the Parental or sponsor’s contribution section for information on how your contribution is determined and your obligation regarding the student’s debt.

Spousal contribution

If you are a student’s spouse as defined by Aide financière aux etudes and you must contribute toward the cost of the student’s education, you will find out how your contribution is determined in the Spousal contribution section.

Declaration of parents or sponsor

If you are the parent or sponsor of a student and are required to contribute toward the cost of the student’s education, consult the Parental or sponsor’s contribution section.
