Are You Entitled to Financial Assistance? If So, Here is How It will be Remitted

First of all, the amounts granted for a given award year (i.e. the portion corresponding to the loan and the portion corresponding to the bursary) will appear on each Financial Assistance Statement that you receive during the year. This information will also be available under On-line Access to Your File!

If this is the first time you have qualified for financial assistance since the winter 2005 study period, you must pick up your Guarantee Certificate at your educational institution.

During the course of the school year, the total amount of financial assistance to which you are entitled (i.e. the portion corresponding to the loan and the portion corresponding to the bursary) will be paid to you in the form of a loan deposited directly into your bank account.

If you qualify for a loan only, instalments will be deposited directly into your bank account at the beginning of each study period.

If you qualify for a loan and a bursary, your financial assistance will be deposited directly into your bank account on a monthly basis.

Payment of the bursary portion of your financial assistance

At the end of the school year, after verifying your income with Revenu Québec, the government will repay your financial institution the amount corresponding to the bursary to which you are entitled, if any. This is essentially a remission of debt, which is how the government will provide you with your bursary. This step is called the loan-to-bursary conversion. You will receive a confirmation of the bank transaction.
