Tuition and related university fees

Have you received confirmation of admission to a university in Québec? You must now pay that educational institution’s tuition and related fees.

What do those fees represent?

Tuition fees are generally set according to the number of university credits in which you are enrolled in a given period of study. The amount charged by credit is the same regardless of the level (i.e. bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate) or the university in Québec.

Related fees correspond to the fees charged for admission, registration, instructional services, and any other compulsory fees charged by the institution. They include general fees (admission, registration and practicums), technology fees, student service fees, student life contributions, copyright fees, thesis or dissertation fees, sport and recreation service fees and student association contributions.

Are those fees taken into account when my financial assistance needs are assessed?

Yes, tuition and related university fees are considered in the assessment of your financial assistance. They are included in the expenses allowed for each period of study of the academic year. It goes without saying that personal expenses, such as library late fees, are not considered.

Are other types of expenses included in the assessment of my financial assistance needs?

Yes, a fixed amount of expenses is allowed for the purchase of school supplies for each study period. That amount is provided for under the Regulation respecting financial assistance for education expenses. In addition, each year, an amount is allowed for the purchase of specialized equipment required for certain programs, if applicable.

How can I find out which amounts were considered in the assessment of my financial assistance needs?

To find out which amounts have been allowed each year for your tuition and related university fees, consult your Financial Assistance Statement or the Eligible expenses section of your on-line student file (click on Your fileFull-time assessment and then on Tables).
