If financial assistance is awarded to you under the Loans Program for Part-Time Studies, it will be awarded to you as a loan on a term-by-term basis.

The amount that could be awarded to you is assessed following a preliminary calculation that establishes your eligibility.

The preliminary calculation takes into account the following factors:

• Your student category
• The number of your dependent children and whether or not you are a single parent
• Your income and that of your parents, sponsor or spouse, if applicable
• Your eligibility threshold

Once Aide financière aux études has established your student category, i.e. student without a parental (or sponsor's) contribution, student with a parental (or sponsor's) contribution, student with a spousal contribution, it sets your eligibility threshold taking into account the base amount and other related factors.

If your income is less than your eligibility threshold, you are eligible for a loan.

The loan covers your educational expenses (tuition fees, admission fees, registration fees, school supplies and related fees) and childcare expenses, if applicable.

The amount awarded each term to cover your educational expenses is determined by taking the number of credits or course hours per week for which you are enrolled and multiplying that number by a variable set according to the level of education.

The amount awarded each term to cover childcare expenses is determined by taking the number of your dependent children under age 12 and the number of your dependent children age 12 or over with a major functional disability or a mental disorder and multiplying that number by $490.
