The mission of Aide financière aux études (AFE) is to improve access to education by offering a financial assistance plan that is adapted to students' needs.
To achieve its mission, AFE must ensure that each student receives all the financial assistance to which he or she is entitled under the Act respecting financial assistance for education expenses and the ensuing Regulation. To that end, AFE must do all that is necessary to process applications fairly and accurately and collaborate with educational and financial institutions.
Delivering quality services to the public is the main thrust of the Public Administration Act, which has established a government management framework focused on the achievement of targeted results, transparency and accountability. AFE's management values are in line with the philosophy underlying the Act, and its commitment to its citizens is confirmed in the Service Statement (French only) of the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport.
AFE's products and services are intended for students enrolled in secondary school vocational training, college and university programs.
AFE is responsible for two main lines of activity: the awarding of financial assistance and the management of student loans.
The issuing of guarantee certificates and the awarding of bursaries constitute the two main financial assistance activities. The payment of interest, the management of exceptional cases, the processing of claims filed by financial institutions and the negotiation of repayment agreements are the main loan management activities.
